Breaking ground on our €40 million manufacturing facility

Combilift formally inaugurated the construction process of its new €40 million, 46,000m² manufacturing facility and global HQ in Monaghan on August 17th. In the presence of local dignitaries and Combilift’s current workforce of 350, Managing Director Martin McVicar and Technical Director Robert Moffett turned the first sod on the 40 hectare site which will house a multi-function facility including a dedicated R&D building, purpose built testing area and adjoining administration offices.

The facility is larger than originally announced and the expansion will position Combilift to double its current €150 million turnover by 2020. The initial phase to level the site is expected to last for 10 weeks and 200 personnel will be employed throughout the construction period of 18 months. A further 200 jobs are set to be created in the next five years, mainly for skilled technicians and design engineers.

Martin McVicar comments: “We are delighted to break ground on our new facility which shows our commitment to manufacturing in Monaghan and the regional economy.”

Combilift is also a workplace partner for the Assembly Technician Traineeship course which starts this year at the Monaghan Institute. This traineeship, together with a recently approved Apprenticeship for Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) Technicians, starting next year, will ensure the supply of locally qualified personnel.

Combilift announced as one of Ireland’s Best Managed Companies!

Combilift has been named as one of Ireland’s ‘Best Managed’ companies in the Deloitte Best Managed Companies Awards Programme. The company, which demonstrated superior business performance was recognised at an awards gala dinner in Dublin on 6th March 2015. The awards, held in association with Barclays Bank Ireland, were attended by over 800 from the Irish business community. Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, Richard Bruton, TD, gave a keynote address at the awards gala.

The Deloitte Best Managed Companies Awards Programme, in association with Barclays Bank Ireland, recognises indigenous Irish companies across Ireland which are operating at the highest levels of business performance.

Commenting on the award, Martin McVicar, Managing Director, Combilift said: “Once again Combilift are the recipient of the Deloitte Best Managed Company Award. An award which consolidates our reputation as a manufacturer of excellence and enhances our status in the marketplace, where we compete successfully with the largest global names in the materials handling sector”.

Former CEO of Enterprise Ireland, Frank Ryan, chaired the independent judging panel that took a holistic approach to measuring company performance, looking at strategy, capability, commitment, and management performance, in addition to financials. The Best Managed Companies Awards Programme is the only awards programme that considers a business’ performance from every perspective. Commenting on this year’s programme, Managing Partner of Deloitte and judging panel member, Brendan Jennings, said: “Our congratulations to all those companies celebrating their Best Managed status. Whether receiving this accolade for the first or the seventh time, it is no mean feat, and it reflects a high level of commitment and capability. In working closely with these companies for the best part of a year, it’s clear to see why they are being recognised as Best Managed. It is a defined strategy, clearly communicated and executed; a belief in innovation in products and practices as a cornerstone of growth; a recognition of the importance of R&D spend; and an intuitive understanding of their marketplace.”

The Deloitte Best Managed Companies Awards Programme is open to companies from all 32 counties in Ireland. Details of entry for the 2015/2016 programme will be issued in the coming weeks on

Head of Large Corporates for Barclays Bank Ireland, Helen Kelly added: “Success is not just about the strength of a company’s management team but how their strengths are leveraged to maximise that company’s potential and this is something that we at Barclays have witnessed over the past few weeks and months in working with each of these best managed companies. As lead sponsor, it has been a great pleasure to mentor and support each of these management teams and on behalf of everyone at Barclays I would like to congratulate them sincerely on their awards.”

The Best Managed Companies Awards Programme was created to recognise the overall success of a company, including management strength, ability to innovate, strategic initiatives and financial performance – all the elements that contribute to a Best Managed company. The ’Best Managed’ designation is an important marketing tool for the winning companies – but, perhaps most importantly, the award provides a reason to celebrate the efforts of the entire company.

Double Success for Combilift at the 2015 FLTA Awards

Combilift had plenty to celebrate at this year’s UK FLTA Awards ceremony as it came away with two trophies to add to its already extensive collection of awards from the association that it has amassed over the past few years.

As well as developing innovative products for more productive materials handling, Combilift focuses on delivering machines which offer precise and easy operation and winning the Ergonomics category for its Rotating Operator Console underlines its commitment to providing the best possible environment for the operator. The console allows 90° rotation of the operator and controls within the cabin. Simple joystick operation activates the hydraulic rotation of the seat, steering column, pedals and mast controls, allowing operators to face the load while manipulating it in con ned spaces. The suspension seat and steering column are fully adjustable to operator requirements for further comfort.

Commenting on the award FLTA chief executive Peter Harvey said: “The rotating operator compartment from Combilift is a prime example of the drive to keep fork lift truck operators comfortable and safe, while achieving the highest levels of productivity and effciency.” After Josh Moffett had accepted the award on behalf of Combilift there was further recognition for the family name when his father, Robert Moffett, Combilift’s Technical Director was the recipient of the FLTA’s highest honour: the Lifetime Achievement Award – although Robert is keen to point out that he is not ready to take things easy just yet and plans to develop many other award winning products in the years to come! Robert’s name is synonymous with the success of the Moffett Mounty truck-mounted forklifts and his engineering expertise and vision has been a key factor in the rapid growth and global reach of Combilift since he established the company with MD Martin McVicar in 1998. “It’s fair to say that Robert has always done things a little differently,” said the FLTA. “He is a problem solver who solves problems before the rest of us have even realised there IS a problem, and his fearlessness – accompanied by almost supernatural energy – has proved him to be both a creative genius and a hugely successful entrepreneur”.

Combilift feature in W14, UK Joinery and Furniture manufacturing Show.

“Since the company launched its first C4000 four-way model in 1998, more than 22,000 units have now been sold worldwide and the company leads the way in providing safe and space saving solutions for long and bulky products as well as palletised loads.

New at W14 is the Combilift 4WSL, a two directional sideloader available with 5t and 6t load capacities which was developed for reliable, robust and fast operation when moving timber across extensive sites and offers considerable benefits over other machines on the market.

Overheating during prolonged operation is a common problem with many sideloaders, but Combilift has counteracted any risk of this by incorporating a single Bosch Rexroth variable piston hydrostatic drive motor coupled with a rugged and proven JCB differential axle as used on the JCB 3CX backhoe model.

This enables long distance travel at high speeds with no concern of overheating. Very low maintenance wet brakes are fitted as standard on the drive and front steering axles.

As always, driver comfort and safety was a priority in the design stages and the cab features a deep suspension seat with joystick control, and a tilting steering column for easy entry and exit.

Pneumatic tyres make for a smooth ride across uneven surfaces such as cobbles, and the fully glazed front panel in the cab considerably enhances visibility for the operator.

As the engine is situated in a low level compartment underneath the platform, excellent visibility when reversing is also ensured.”
