The Sky’s the Limit at Liebherr
| One of the world’s largest crane manufacturers, Liebherr, uses Combilifts at a number of its sites around the world, and its manufacturing facility in Southern Germany is benefiting from the versatile attributes of two diesel-powered Combilifts.
Extreme loads
The massive volume of raw materials and finished products moved around the site at Biberach requires a handling system that can guarantee the utmost safety and efficiency, and the size of many of Liebherr’s loads also pose a challenge - the heaviest and largest elements for the tower cranes measure 12.43m by 2.3m, and weigh around 12 tonnes each. Conventional sideloaders had previously been used, but their lack of manoeuvrability with these extreme loads were limiting operational versatility.

Germany’s first 14t Combilift
Two Combilifts, including the first ever 14t model to be shipped to Germany, are now hard at work on a demanding round the clock three-shift basis, unloading and loading around 90 HGV’s a day. They keep the dispatch, assembly and paint shop departments constantly supplied with materials, and have proved to be extremely reliable, even when working in the harsh and snowy German winters.
Improved health and safety
The 14t Combilift works mainly outside - its large tyres and good ground clearance being ideal for easy operation on uneven and muddy terrain. The smaller, 4t capacity truck is used for lighter work in the undercover storage area. Attachments tailored to Liebherr’s specific loads such as hydraulic fork positioners and telescopic forks were also fitted to suit the oversized and varied dimensions handled. The Combilift 4-way capability, easy changeover to sideways mode and excellent visibility from the cab all contribute to enhanced health and safety procedures on a very busy site.
